River Nature Preserve Pictures

We had a great time exploring a nearby Nature Preserve with family.
Here's some pictures from the hike. It was a beautiful sunny day after days of cold and rain.

Snowy Egret

Red-winged Blackbird
Hummingbirds
California Poppy

Red Tailed Hawk

Cousin Kisses
Vulture
Red Tailed Hawk

I think these are coons? (can you tell I'm really not an expert in birds - sorry for all the mistakes for those who are!) I liked the picture of that one standing on one leg.

Nature Hike

We visited a Nature center last week along the American river and had such a great time on a beautiful day with just the right weather!

We saved this squirrel from a swooping hawk. The hawk was on it's way down, the squirrel made a squeak, we all gasped and our movements frightened the hawk away. The hawk sat in a tree squawking, while the squirrel stood still and observed us.

We saw deer and wild turkey too. What a great family day!

Partridge in a pear tree...

Well, not a pear tree and not a partridge either, but it was a strange Christmas bird sight!
These birds where perched right next to the entrance to the airport, with lots of people walking just a few feet from them. Most looked like they were sleeping. It was a strange sight, with them being so close to all the hustle and bustle of people during the busy holiday season.

Sea Dragon

This is such an intriguing creature.

We saw these when visiting an aquarium. They look leaf-like to blend into their surroundings.
